Michael B. Mizwa joined Baylor College of Medicine in 2004 to lead efforts in the creation of the Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS initiative (BIPAI) and affiliated Network of Children’s Clinical Centers of Excellence and non-government foundations. In 2015, Mizwa accepted the leadership role of Texas Children’s Director, Global Health, resulting in expanded geographical scope, enhanced collaboration, and additional resource allocations for global health operations throughout the Network.  Today, Mizwa jointly leads both Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine global health non-profit organizations.

Mizwa also serves as the Board of Director’s chairman of the Network foundations in Argentina, Colombia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Tanzania, vice chairman in Romania, and member in Uganda.

Prior to joining Baylor College of Medicine in 2004, Mizwa spent over 17 years leading AIDS Foundation Houston, at the time one of the largest non-profit AIDS service organizations in the United States, where he served as outreach coordinator, director of education, vice president-community affairs and ultimately CEO.

Dr. Gordon E. Schutze is a professor of pediatrics and interim chairman of the department of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. In addition, he is the holder of the Martin I. Lorin, M.D. endowed chair in medical education and serves as BIPAI's vice president for international medical services.

Previously, Dr. Schutze was professor of pediatrics and pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children's Hospital. A graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, Schutze earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas and completed his pediatric residency and infectious diseases fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital.

He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Infectious Disease Society of America, Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, Texas Pediatrics Society, Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society. His special interests in medicine have been bacterial and tick associated diseases, pediatric global health and the teaching of pediatrics.

Bridgette Naik serves as BIPAI chief financial officer, as well as the business planning manager for the BIPAI section at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine. She earned her master in professional accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, Bridgette served as an auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP. Her clients included several health care providers.

Dr. Heather Haq is the Chief Medical Officer for BIPAI at Texas Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. She also cares for children as a pediatric hospitalist at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Haq is a highly-qualified champion for global child health. She received her undergraduate degree from McGill University with a major in international development, completed her Master of Health Science degree in international public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She completed her four-year Pediatrics/Child Global Health residency at Baylor College of Medicine, including clinical training in Uganda, and is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics.

Dr. Haq has worked in the international public health sector for over a decade. She has experience in caring for children living with HIV/AIDs in Uganda; leading community-based public health programming; developing curricula for various cadres of health care workers, including training for community health workers; and designing health communication strategies in low- and middle-income countries. As an experienced medical education researcher, she is a national leader in global health education and promotes best practices to prepare learners from high-income countries for global health experiences in low-resource settings.

Adam Gibson is Manager for Texas Children’s Global Health. He earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law and Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from University of St. Thomas. He previously held positions as Vice President & COO at Salvex, Director of Business Development at Rottet Studio, Vice President of International Business at Greater Houston Partnership and Deputy Director at Bilateral Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as Executive Director of the Houston World Trade Center and World Energy Cities Partnership. Adam currently serves on the President’s Advisory Board at University of St. Thomas and Board of Directors of Baylor Foundation Uganda. He is also a graduate of the Center for Houston’s Future.

Adam Gibson, JD

Taylor Napier-Earle is Manager for Global Health at Texas Children’s Hospital and helps manage a portfolio of programs in sub-Saharan Africa and South America. She began her career as a project manager in Washington, DC working with the United States Agency for International Development’s Global Health Bureau and the US Centers for Disease Control for 5 years to provide project oversight and evaluation for maternal and child health projects in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia. Prior to joining Texas Children's Hospital, Taylor consulted at Environmental Resources Management assisting clients in determining and mitigating negative social and health impacts of large-scale projects on existing and nearby communities. She received her Master’s in International Development and Global Health from George Washington University and her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Richmond.

Taylor Napier-Earle, MA

Dr. Susan B. Torrey is an associate professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. She is board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine. Her global health experience focuses on systems strengthening, ethical considerations for global health partnerships, and education. She has worked in Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. Her expertise supports strategic planning, as well as clinical and academic operations.

Her previous positions include chief of the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at NYU/Bellevue and director of Global Health for the section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is a section editor for UpToDate.

Susan Torrey, MD

Nadia serves as Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with Texas Children’s Hospital. She began her career in the international development and humanitarian assistance space specializing in monitoring and evaluating health programs with INGOs. Her career evolved to continue focusing on monitoring and evaluation, adding on accountability and learning, but expanded her scope to include sectors from shelter, education, WASH, food security and agriculture, livelihoods and more. Her monitoring and evaluation experience spans from dedicated support to one project to oversight of a country program, capacity building, design of monitoring systems, leading evaluations across sectors and donors and introducing new technologies to support monitoring and evaluation processes and systems. Beyond monitoring and evaluation, she brings experience managing and implementing both individual and a portfolio of programs, hands on project design coordination and training, and designing and leading program, partner and staff capacity building and learning workshops. Nadia has a Master’s in Public Health from New York Medical College, where she focused on Global Health, specifically Maternal and Child Health and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New York University.

Natasha Irish serves as Grant Development Specialist for Texas Children's Global Health. Natasha earned her Master's of Social Work with a Certificate in Global Health from the University of Wisconsin. Natasha began her career in public child welfare, leading initiatives for the protection of vulnerable children in Haiti, East Africa, and the United States. She spent several years in Haiti overseeing fundraising and donor relations for a healthcare organization. Prior to joining Texas Children's, Natasha was the Director of Research and Sponsored Programs at Concordia University Wisconsin, where she also served as the institution's IRB Administrator and an Adjunct Professor of Social Work.

Dr. Brodus Franklin serves as an Analyst for Texas Children's Global Health. His primary role is supporting marketing, communications, and project lead across the Network. Dr. Franklin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University’s College of Liberal Arts, obtained a Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, and received dual Master’s degrees in Healthcare Administration and Business Administration from The University of Houston—Clear Lake (UHCL) in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). Dr. Franklin has conducted clinical and pre-clinical research, submitted manuscripts for publication in several major journals, including the Journal of Neurosurgery, the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, and Brain and Development, and contributed as an author for a book, entitled “The Essential Neurosurgery Companion.”

Prior to joining Texas Children's, Dr. Franklin served as Business Operations Associate for Baylor Global Health at Baylor College of Medicine.

Lynnea Roth serves as the Global Health Corps Coordinator within BIPAI Headquarters. Prior to working within BIPAI, she served as a Program Officer at the NIH, NIAID/Division of AIDS for 9 years. In addition to obtaining an MPH in International Health from Yale School of Public Health in 2001, Lynnie also served as a Health Volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa from 1996-1998. Her time as a volunteer solidified her desire to work within the global health arena and her education afforded her the opportunity to further learn and grow within the discipline.
